LIPOSUCATION

What is liposuction surgery?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess fat deposits from specific areas of the body, helping to contour and reshape those areas. It is not a weight loss method but rather a cosmetic procedure intended to address stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. During the procedure, a plastic surgeon uses a thin tube called a cannula to suction out the targeted fat cells, creating a more balanced and proportionate appearance.

How long does a liposuction procedure usually take?

  • The duration of a liposuction procedure depends on several factors, including the number of areas being treated, the amount of fat being removed, the technique used, and the surgeon’s experience. On average, a liposuction surgery can take anywhere from 1 to 4 hours. More extensive procedures involving multiple areas or larger amounts of fat removal may take longer.

What is the recovery process like after liposuction?

The recovery process after liposuction can vary from person to person, but here’s a general overview:

  • Immediately After Surgery: You will likely experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort in the treated areas. You may be given a compression garment to wear, which helps reduce swelling and promote healing.

  • First Week: Most patients can return to light activities and work within a few days to a week after the procedure. You might still experience some soreness and swelling during this time.

  • Two to Four Weeks: Over the next few weeks, swelling should continue to decrease, and you can gradually resume more normal activities. You should avoid strenuous exercise until your surgeon gives you the go-ahead.

  • Several Months: It can take several months for the final results to become fully visible as the swelling subsides and the treated areas settle into their new shape.
